Just found a great website - don't know if you have seen it before or not - www.challengingbehavior.com It is specifically for young children. Take a look!
Thanks for the directions, Shelly! IT WORKED! Where are the rest of our group? If I can do this anyone can! The website that you mentioned above was given out at several of the workshops I attended at the DEC conference! I have got to find time to get on all the internet sites that I have in my resources! I'm missing out on important and helpful stuff! I'll check in again soon!
Welcome Janie!! If I could just remember my password it would be helpful!! I wrote it down this time! I agree-I need time to check out websites too! Later, Dana
Yes, I am back at work now. I was ready to come back, but it was definitely hard to leave the baby. My little guy is doing great! His name is Kale Raymond and he is already 10 weeks old. I'm not sure where the time goes. How is your school year going?
I need to look at some websites too! Maybe this is something we could do at one of our meetings. Share websites and explore them.
Hi everybody! I think I finally got it to work. I used that website several times last year getting information for the classroom teacher. I like that website a lot.
Hey Margie! I looked at the website a little bit and really like it. There is some good information on it!
How does it feel not taking classes? It's weird, don't you think? Every night and weekend I feel like I have something to do, but I don't! It's great :)
Hey Kayla and Margie-glad you are on!! The challenging behavior website is awesome huh? We got some good information @ DEC that we will be sharing with you all @ our January meeting. Take care and keep blogging!!
Hey, Kayla! Thanks for the update on Kale! Treasure every moment that you can with him. Time doesn't slow down it just speeds up! How does it feel to start school with the year already well under way! Glad you are back!
Welcome to the blog Margie! Looking forward to keeping in contact with you all here on the blog!
I have a student in my classroom. He turned 4 years old in July and is quite a bit younger than the rest of the class. He comes from a split family. There are always 4 children in the home and sometimes 7 children in the home. He seems to CRAVE attention in the classroom. In the past few weeks, I've observed that he does not like sitting during circle time or cleaning up. When there is "structured" free time he likes that the best. When he is under the table or wandering around the classroom I ignore him and he eventually comes to the carpet during circle time. Any ideas on how to get him to participate during circle time the whole time?
Sorry about writing a book, haha. I would love to hear any suggestions you may have. Thank you!
One more question. I have two students in my classroom that write their names from right to left instead of left to right, so Cody's name turns out Y D O C. Is this a huge concern at this age? What are some other suggestions you might have?
Kayla, is the reason for the backwards names because they are starting on the right hand side of the page? If so, you could put a green dot, sticker, or icon on the left so they remember to start at the correct side of the page.
You will probably have to baby step the one student to circle time. Shoot for a little more time at circle, then a little more time, etc. Could the child have a small fidget or something to hold when he/she is at circle time. Only gets that thing when sitting at circle time. Gets up and leave then item stays at circle time. We have the same issue with my little autistic guy and we have only been able to get him near circle time. Good luck! I'm anxious to see what other the other resources on this blog have to say!
Shelly, I tried to find the "And they still won't come" webcast from the e-mail you sent but I couldn't find it? What am I doing wrong? Sorry I'm such a technical pain in the back side!
Janie, thanks for the ideas! I did have the boy hold a little ball one day and told him he was the protector of my green ball. He liked it and did actually stay at circle time a little longer. I will definitely try this again.
Janie, they don't have the webinar up any more but there are handouts. Go to http://www.keccs.org/~eccs/project-launch/index.shtml and in the middle of the page under LAUNCH news you will see a link. It is nothing earth shattering but I thought it was worth a read.
Can you all believe it is T-giving time (almost)? I am so anxious to go see family. My nephew has a 1 year old AND a 2 year old so our holidays should be fun!
Hope you all got the parent resource guides in the mail! I thought they were helpful.
I did get to visit with Phoebe last week. She continues to be so impressed with all you are doing!
Thanks, Shelly! I'll look that up! Got the parent resource but haven't had time to really look it through. I'm really ready for a vacation break, too! Anxious to see family like you said and just needing some space from school! I think this is going to be a really useful blog when we all get used to using it! I'm thankful for.....all of you EC group! Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you as well! I'm excited to head home to South Dakota for a few days. We will also be having Kale's baptism. It will be an eventful weekend!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING everyone!! Hope it's a good break and that we will come back refreshed and ready to tackle the last month/the craziest month of the year!!
Wow! A lot has gone on here since the last time I checked! Need to check more often I guess! Dana, I have a question about where you found your clipart for your Spongebob teeth brushing social story. I need to find clip art of a John Deere Tractor being a good friend!! :) Ha! I just laugh wondering what someone NOT in ECSE would say reading this!!!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I value all of you. Every time I go outside of the coop and visit with others doing EC, I am reminded of how terrific you all are! I am very proud of EC at HPEC.
I look forward to seeing you January 14th at next meeting.
Hi everyone! THANK YOU SO MUCH for the wonderful baby shower you gave me last Friday. Kale is going to LOVE his toys and books. The cookies were beautiful and delicious!
Great meeting ladies-thanks again Kelli and Ginny-your info was GREAT!! Kayla-hope you found places for all your cute stuff!! Have a great rest of the week ladies!!
One of the preschool teachers I am working with asked about the correct sequence to teach patterns. Anyone have an answer to that or a resource for that? Also, I need a good simple article or reference for a Spanish speaking dad to read to his kids. I thought we mentioned a resource for that at our last meeting but I couldn't find that again! Thanks for your help on these "coaching" issues! Janie
Hi ladies! I have a quick question. I have a student who is eligible for kindergarten next year. She will be six years old in September 2011 and has already been in my class for three consecutive years. Would your recommendation for her be kindergarten or kinderprep? Thanks! Kayla :)
Hey you terrific EC people! Welcome back to school - I look forward to blogging with you!

Hello ladies! One of our kindergarten teachers shared a website that has all kinds of engaging games for kids. The website is:
